Link-Checked & Updated Pages
The following groups of pages are checked more often than others, as they are considered to be the core of what the site is about. It is anticipated these will be done between 4 - 6 times a year. We are going to trial a more fluid updating program this year, rather than set dates for a large volume of pages, and see how this works.
- All pages in the Education menu and its sub-menus.
- All pages in the Teachers menu.
- All pages in the Schools menu, including both government and non-government school pages.
- The Calendar pages.
- All pages in the Education News menu, including all Headline pages.
- All pages in the Site Information menu, including this one.
- The Education Software and Education Software Archive pages.
In addition to the core pages, we work to have every other page updated a minimum of 2 to 3 times a year.
Each page has the date on which it was last checked indicated in the footer using the ‘Last updated - Day/Month/Year’ statement. You will therefore see the timing of the last update for every page on the site.

Link Checking Procedure
As indicated, links on all core, and other selected, pages are checked using Xenu Link Sleuth.
This is normally done immediately prior to the update to allow for the following process.
- Checking is done with individual pages from the nominated list.
- All links included on the List of Redirected URLs are checked to see if the redirects are accurate. If they are, the changed link is included. Where they lead to a site that is irrelevant for whatever reason [◄], a replacement site is found, or if this is not possible, it is indicated and held till the next update or the link is removed.
- All URLs in the Broken Links are checked. Not all listed links are inaccurate, or allow for checking this way. If they are broken, then replacement links are found wherever possible. If it is not possible, it is indicated and held till the next update or the link is removed.
- While this can be time consuming, it does help us to maintain links as accurately as possible. You can understand why the checking process takes considerable time. However, changes can still take place between when we check and when we update.
- [◄] Reasons include re-structuring of a site, hijacking of pages, closure of servers, selling/sale of pages, takeovers by other companies or groups, reaching an ‘error’ page, new limitations on access, …
