dictionary [n.]

[pl. dictionaries] a book that lists the words of a language and gives their meaning, or their equivalent in a different language.
- ORIGIN from Latin dictionarium manuale or dictionarius liber ‘manual or book of words’.

thesaurus [n.]

[pl. thesauri or thesauruses] a book that lists words in groups of synonyms and related concepts.
- ORIGIN Greek thesauros ‘storehouse, treasure’.
