Internet Search Engines are now important in our search for knowledge. They provide access to much information about the world in general and specific topics. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of search engines of various types though one, Google, is dominant in many countries.
This does not mean that it is the best for finding every piece of information you seek. There are specialist search engines that find specific information much better, because it is all they are designed to do. Others target particular areas of knowledge like that contained on the Invisible [Deep] Web, information to which most search engines do not have automatic access. They may also use a different language, e.g. Baidu.
Nobody knows how many pages and sites make up the web but some estimates suggest over three billion pages and possibly 40-45 million websites. This constantly changes but only to become larger. No single search engine covers all of this.
To provide assistance, the following are found on the Search Engine pages.
On the Search Engine Assistance page find suggestions and links to help use search engines more effectively.
There are also links to different search engines under two headings - Others and Specialist.
The first looks at commonly used engines, Australian search engines, metasearch engines, search directories and international search engines. Links to other search engine listings are included.
The Specialist Search Engine page covers areas as different as those for children, the Invisible [Deep] Web and specialist areas ranging from Animals to PDF documents, Blogs to Graphics, Legal Matters to News, Sport to Politics and more.
While there is a Google site search on every page, we have a separate, non-Google search engine. This is a valuable tool for us as feedback lets us target specific areas of interest we may not have included. To use this search engine, Click on the Search Aussie Educator button.
A separate page provides access to specific Education Search Engines.
