Education news comes from a wide range of sources, covers many topics and refers to different levels and types of education. It can be factual, someone’s interpretation of education material or events, responses, or simply personal ramblings. You need to be aware of the source, its credibility, how it relates to other comments and ideas and then make a judgement as to how important and valid it is.
At its simplest, education news can be the answer[s] to the question - ‘What happened at school today ?’
At its most complex, it can be a presentation, relating to a single aspect of the education process, whether done by an expert - in person, in a journal, a download from the internet or part of debate or discussion forum.
In between, there are many ways of getting the news. These include :
- school newsletters;
- annual school reports;
- guest speakers at meetings;
- Departmental newsletters [see below];
- information from other authorities, e.g. Curriculum, Examinations, … ;
- brochures [even advertisements];
- newspapers;
- television & radio;
- the internet - blogs, podcasts, websites, reports you can download, forums, … ;
- journals and magazines, educational and other;
- government announcements - media releases, policy statements, policy decisions, research.
The majority of these sources will apply whether you are connected to a government or a non-government school, or some form of early childhood, higher, adult or vocational education.
News can be as simple as Headlines that lead to further information, or full articles/presentations that provide all relevant details.
