
Vietnamese is both the national and official language of Vietnam and also the language of Vietnamese emigre groups, especially in the US and Australia. In the latter, it is among the most spoken languages after English. Around 80 million people speak Vietnamese. There are several dialects. The Vietnamese alphabet - Quổc Ngữ or National Script is based on the Latin alphabet. Vocabulary has also derived from Chinese and French influences.
