School Terms & Vacations

Dates for school terms and vacations for the current year, for all states & territories, are available on the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website indicated below. A second site from australia.gov.au provides similar information.

A similar listing is also available from the last link. This site provides further links to areas such as holiday camps and activities and other educational matters. This is a commercial site.

There are also links to every state & territory, where you can find their terms and holidays.

Each site also provides the dates for several future years for that state or territory. Some of these are included on the same page [Northern Territory, Victoria], in a PDF download [Australian Capital Territory], on linked pages [Western Australia] and a multi-year menu [New South Wales].

Many of these also have connections to other material including dates for special schools - both type and because of isolation, calendars, special dates such as examinations, final dates for students completing studies, calendar archives, professional learning [staff development] days when students do not attend school and links to Public Holiday listings.

The listings given are for government school systems. Non-government schools base their terms and holidays on these, but may vary for many reasons. To be certain of the exact dates for these schools, contact the particular school involved.

All states & territories, have 4 terms per year with the exception of Tasmania, which has 3 longer terms. A decision has now been made that Tasmania will have a Four Term School Year from 2013. Details of the decision can be found at the following : Four Term School Year To Be Implemented - Nick McKim, MP - Tasmanian Government Media Release and also from this site Schools Set To Go To Four Terms [The Mercury].

For information about other public holidays and special days, check details on the Special Days & Public Holidays page.
